Troubleshooting File Uploads — Fix Common Upload Issues
Solve common Unsheet upload problems: unsupported formats, file size limits, parsing errors, and AI generation failures. Quick fixes for every issue.
Unsupported File Format
Error: "Unsupported file format. Please upload CSV or Excel."
Fix: Unsheet accepts .xlsx and .csv only. If your file is:
.xls→ Open in Excel and Save As.xlsx.ods→ Open in LibreOffice/Excel and Save As.xlsx.numbers→ Open in Numbers and Export as.xlsx
File Too Large
Error: "File too large. Maximum size is 10MB."
Fix: Reduce your file size by:
- Removing unused sheets (tabs)
- Deleting empty rows and columns beyond your data range
- Removing embedded images or objects
- Splitting into multiple smaller files
Parse Error
Error: "Failed to parse file"
Fix: The file might be corrupted or password-protected. Try:
- Opening the file in Excel, then Save As a new
.xlsx - Removing password protection
- Checking that the file has at least a header row and one data row
AI Generation Failed
Error: "AI failed to generate a valid UI schema" or "AI processing failed"
Fix: This is usually a temporary issue with the AI service. Try:
- Uploading the file again (the AI service may have been rate-limited)
- If the error persists, the fallback generator will create a basic table view

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my file upload failing?
Common causes: file is over 10MB, file is not .xlsx or .csv format, file is corrupted, or the file has no data rows. Check the error message for specifics.
What does 'Unsupported file format' mean?
Unsheet only accepts .xlsx (Excel) and .csv files. Other formats like .xls (legacy Excel), .ods (OpenDocument), or .numbers (Apple) are not supported. Save your file as .xlsx first.
